Small country education systems

David Smawfield maintains an ongoing professional interest in the special issues affecting the provision of education in small countries.

David Smawfield's Masters and Doctoral degrees are held in the field of International and Comparative Education. In both cases he specialised in researching small country education systems.

As part of his Masters degree (awarded with distinction) his dissertation focussed on the generation of educational materials in small developing countries. His doctoral thesis was 'An examination of selected aspects of education in the British Virgin Islands: a small country case study'.

David Smawfield is a former member of a special committee set up within the Commonwealth Secretariat to address the educational concerns of small countries.

David Smawfield has worked on a long-term basis in the Indian Ocean island of the Seychelles, and also in the Caribbean Island of the British Virgin Islands. He has undertaken shorter consultancy assignments in Dominica, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Vanuatu.

He has also published in academic journals on educational issues relating to small country education systems.
